With Lecavalier Injury, Stevie Forced Out of Retirement

As was speculated, Vinny had to sit out tonights game after taking a Bryan McCabe slapshot to the hand Saturday.

With Lecavalier being a game time decision, the Lightning were left in somewhat of a roster bind and forced to make a quick decision, Steve Yzerman decided to come out of retirement and play.

Coach Guy Boucher had some insight into how the idea came to fruition:

"I showed up early for practice this morning, and in the locker room was Stevie, and I swear, he had on Vinny's jersey and helmet, had an old Sher-wood wooden stick and he was dancing around the locker room saying 'Stevie to Marty, Marty to Stevie, he shoots, he scores!!!' Once I picked myself up off the floor, I thought 'ya know, that's not a bad idea.' "

When asked what to expect, Yzerman had this to say:

"Well, ya know. Just going to play hard. Win some faceoffs. Hit the net. Warmup with no helmet and make all the woman swoon. Yell French curse words at the linesman. Have my place on the top line stolen away by Stamkos. Ya know, the stuff Vinny would normally do."
